Evaluation of Turkish Pharmaceutical Market 2017-2021H1

AIFD member companies’ market share was 34% in pharmacy unit sales, 13% in hospital unit sales and 32% in total unit sales in the first half of 2021.



Total “unit sales growth rates” of AIFD member companies were significantly lower than of all pharmaceutical companies in 2017, 2018 and 2019. During these 3 years, the growth rates of hospital unit sales were below zero (negative growth) for the member companies, whereas hospital unit sales growth rates were over 5% for the total market. In 2020, unit sales growth rate of all pharmaceutical companies was - 5%, whereas the rate of AIFD member companies was slightly less than zero. Total unit sales of all pharmaceutical companies decreased by 3% in the first half of 2021 compared to the first half of 2020. Total unit sales of AIFD member companies decreased by 0.3%.


AIFD member companies’ market share was 50% in TRY sales in the first half of 2021. 56% of the hospital sales in TRY was through AIFD member companies in 2021H1, even though their share in hospital unit sales was 13%.



AIFD member companies’ total sales in TRY grew more than all companies’ total sales in the first half of 2021 compared to the first half of 2020. Pharmacy sales in TRY increased by 23% for the member companies compared to the 24% growth for total pharmacy market. Hospital sales of AIFD member companies increased by 25% whereas total hospital market sales increased by 11%.



While pharmacy and hospital sales in TRY increased in 2020, they both declined in USD terms.



Pharmacy sales of all pharmaceutical companies increased by 1% and hospital sales of all pharmaceutical companies decreased by 10% in the first half of 2021 compared to the first half of 2020. AIFD member companies experienced increase in both pharmacy and hospital sales in USD terms, 1% and 2% respectively.
