AIFD Working Bodies

Health Economic Policies SMC

AIFD HEP SMC regular monthly meetings took place as planned in June and July 2021. AIFD headline goal, strategic priorities, key outcomes for governance from AIFD Strategy Workshop, internal working principles, 2021 HEP SMC projects/initiatives and previous works of the SMC were discussed. Ensuring access to innovation and securing a sustainable pricing model are the two strategic priorities directly related to the SMC. AIFD HEP SMC hold a Strategy Workshop in July to define SMC specific priorities and to propose an engagement plan.

For new products

  • Ensure sustainability of access of patients to innovation for the future – price confidentiality

Action plans

  • Continue to create sense of urgency around the FX topic NOW in a continuous manner on continuation/improvement of FX adjustment by leveraging other stakeholders
  • Explore with the government on a predictable model considering time to market for medicines
  • Explore feasibility of confidential pricing
  • Advocacy: Raise the awareness on “why the regulation is not sustainable for the industry in terms of bringing new products to the patients”
    • Leverage an Advisory Board for advocacy with Ankara
    • Continuously raise awareness of the costs to the public/patients
    • Leverage benchmark countries on access and benchmark with other innovation that Turkish citizens are “accessing”

AIFD HEP SMC Strategy Workshop

HEP SMC hold a Strategy Workshop to define SMC specific priorities and to propose an engagement plan. Four areas of focus were speeding up the reimbursement process, globalproof, sustainable pricing model, patient centric & fact-based reimbursement decision making and evidence-based & impactful advocacy.

HEP SMC members discussed and answered the questions below. The outcomes of the workshop are to be presented to the Board members.

Speeding up the reimbursement process

  • Which process could go faster?
  • What improvements do we see in the system?
  • What would accelerate the time to market?

Globalproof, sustainable pricing model

  • How can we avoid Fixed FX for novel products?
  • How can we ensure price confidentiality towards other countries?
  • How can we reduce the impact of having a Fixed FX rate?

Patient centric & evidence-based reimbursement decision making

  • How can decisions be taken on value rather than simple budget impact?
  • What should be the role of Health Industries Presidency?
  • How can patients be at the center of decision making?

Evidence-based & impactful advocacy

  • How can we conduct “evidence based / data driven advocacy”?
  • What data would be of interest to the broader public?
  • How can we build support for AIFD positions?
