29.11.2024

The 2nd Innovative Medicines Symposium will be organized by AIFD on November 27th at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital. At AIFD’s symposium this year, the topic of multi-dimensional discussion will be “Value-based pricing and reimbursement systems”, with participation from health sector stakeholders, especially public representatives.

AIFD aims to provide Turkish people with access to innovative medicines and treatments while contributing to the discovery of effective solutions to health problems in Türkiye. This year, the symposium organized by AIFD will be titled “Unlocking Value Potential: Developing the Pharmaceutical Industry for Better Health Outcomes in Türkiye”.

Commenting on the event, where value-based pricing and reimbursement systems will be discussed in a multi-dimensional manner and expert speakers from both Türkiye and abroad will participate, AIFD Economic Policies Director Serah Kekeç said, “The concept of ‘value’ in health surfaced in the 1980s with studies on the measurement of health outcomes, and became an essential topic in the pricing and reimbursement policies of health services all over the world. In pharmaceuticals, which have a significant share in healthcare expenditures, it is now important to demonstrate the value the drug creates for the patient, society and the reimbursing organization– in addition to clinical efficacy and safety data. In this context, “Evaluation of Health Technologies” processes have gained importance all over the world.”

Serah Kekeç, Economic Policies Director of AIFD, the current members of which includes 36 research-based pharmaceutical companies that create value for the Turkish healthcare ecosystem, stated that in line with their mission to be a solution partner to the public sector, they will organize the second of the Innovative Medicines Symposium series. Titled “Unlocking Value Potential: Developing the Pharmaceutical Industry for Better Health Outcomes in Türkiye”, the symposium aims to help better understand Value-Based Reimbursement Systems, which are also included in Türkiye’s top policy reports such as the Development Plan and Medium Term Program, and to evaluate different approaches with various stakeholders within the sector.

Within the scope of the event, panels titled “Value-Based Pricing and Reimbursement: Challenges and Opportunities in the Turkish Pharmaceutical Industry”, “Shaping the Future: Emerging Trends and Opportunities in Value-Based Pharmaceutical Systems”, ‘Patient Perspectives in Value-Based Systems’, ‘Digital Health Technologies and the Role of Data in Value-Based Systems’ will be hosting a variety of valuable speakers.

The Symposium’s Keynote Speaker will be Prof. Dr. Dennis A. Ostwald

Prof. Dr. Dennis A. Ostwald, who advocates that health should be treated as an investment for social welfare and economic growth, and whose macroeconomic analyses in this field have been presented on prestigious platforms such as the United Nations General Assembly, the World Health Summit and the European Parliament, will take part in the symposium as the keynote speaker.
